RP1029: Integration of phase change storage into passive and active heating, conventional and evaporative cooling

The project will develop off-the-shelf products based on phase change material (PCM) to reduce the energy consumption from air conditioning and make better use of PV systems. The first product range will be encapsulated PCM claddings for integration into the building envelope, and the second product will be a PCM heat storage unit for integration into domestic and commercial air conditioning systems. These products will have potential for use in existing as well as new buildings.

The project will provide economic energy storage systems to ensure the best utilisation of generated PV electricity and reduce peak electricity usage of airconditioners, peak load on the grid, overall energy consumption and hence the carbon footprint of buildings.
